The Benue State House of Assembly, Tuesday,
approved the sack of three Caretaker Chairmen of Ukum, Katsina-Ala, and Gboko local government on allegations of gross misconduct, embezzlement of local government revenue funds and indulging in unwholesome activities not befitting of their office.
This was contained in a press statement signed by Chief Press Secretary to the Speaker, Raphael Akume which was made available to newsmen in Makurdi.
The sack of the chairmen preceded a letter written to the House by the State Governor Hyacinth Alia requesting the assembly to sack and replace the chairmen.
While reading the letter on the floor of the Assembly, the speaker, Hon. Aondona Dajoh sought members’ approval and it was unanimously agreed that the chairmen should be sacked and handover to their deputies immediately.
The house later confirmed the names sent to them by the executive Governor, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia as follows, Hon. Tarvershima Abraham Agber of Gboko replaced by Hon. Verlumun Avar, Pst Gideon Haanongon of Ukum (who recently was released by kidnappers after almost two weeks in captivity) replaced by Hon. Victor Iorzaa and Hon. Francis Zazan of Katsina-Ala replaced by Hon. Justin Shaku.
The chairmen have only served two (2) months of their 6 months term. They were sworn-in December 12, 2023 at midnight by the Governor amidst controversies.
