The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) hThursday launched an awareness campaign against tanker explosions and fire incidents in Adamawa and Taraba states.
The campaign aims to safeguard the lives and property of the people by educating tanker drivers and stakeholders on fire prevention, emergency response, and effective communication strategies.
NEMA Director General, Hajia Zubaida Umar, represented by Mr. Giwa Kurutsi, Head of Search and Rescue, Yola Operation Office, emphasized the importance of the initiative, citing the devastating effects of tanker explosions on communities. The campaign will feature workshops, awareness programs, and community outreaches.
Assistant Controller Yakubu Fungus, Controller of Federal Fire Service in Taraba, advised tanker drivers to be cautious of driving rules and safety measures while driving.
Alhaji Dahiru Modibbo, Chairman of NUPENG, Taraba branch, called on the Federal government to fix all roads to reduce accidents and reduce the number of checkpoints on highways.
Alhaji Ahmed Isa, representative of National Association of Transport Owners (NATO), appealed to Governor Agbu Kefas of Taraba to complete the trailer park project in Jalingo, noting that Taraba is the only state without a trailer park, and parking heavy-duty trucks along highways is risky to road users.
The campaign was attended by stakeholders, including the Federal Road Safety Corps, National Orientation Agency, Red Cross, and Taraba State Emergency Management Agency.
