From Joseph Uchenna, in Makurdi

The Middle Belt Indigenous Christian Ministers Forum has condemned in strong terms the killing of over 200 persons in Yelwata, Guma Local Government area of Benue State, stressing that the reckless killings of innocent people must not be accepted as our reality .

The Benue State Chairman of the Christian group, Archbishop Dr Cephas Ocheola Okwori made the condemnation in a press statement on Friday in Makurdi.

He said senseless killings and acts of violence are not only tragedies for the families directly affected but also a stain on the fabric of our entire community.

Archbishop Okwori lamented that every life lost is a precious life taken too soon, adding that these events leave behind grieving families, shattered dreams, and a pervasive sense of fear that undermines our sense of safety and belonging.

Said he: “Benue State chapter of the Middle belt Indigenous Christin Ministers Forum, unequivocally condemn the senseless killings that have taken place in our neighborhood. We cannot and must not accept this as our reality.

“It is crucial that we come together as a united front against this violence. We must support one another and work collaboratively to find solutions that promote peace and justice and Government at all level must take the lead. They have sworn on oath to protect lives and properties. We urgue the Government to target these people killing us at our homes without any form of provacation as terrorist , their activities must not be allowed to continue.

“I urge each of you to get involved—whether through community programs, dialogues, or supporting organizations that seek to reduce violence. We need to empower our youth, provide them with opportunities, and foster an environment where conflicts can be resolved through understanding and cooperation.

“Let us honor the lives lost by committing ourselves to be agents of change in our communities.Together, we can create a safer, more compassionate environment for everyone” .
