The regime of sweeping tariffs imposed by the United States of America on countries
opens doors for increased trade volumes between China and Nigeria, the Chinese Ambassador in Nigeria, Yu Dunhai has said.
Dunhai spoke at an interractive meeting with newsmen in Abuja on Friday.
He said the US tariff regime is an opporrunity for Nigeria and China to deepen bilateral relations that will give rise to increased imports and exports between both countries.
He said more export of Nigeria’s oil to China and increased sale of peanuts by Nigeria is on the way.
According to him, China believes that Nigeria is big market for China’s investment and suggested that the huge potential that Nigeria has will further cement trade ties between both countries.
Nigeria, he said, remains a major engineering partner to China because infrastructure will boost the development of the economy of the country.
“I am very optimistic that there will be more opportunities for Nigeria and China to deepen economic and trade relations,” Dunhai said.
Responding to question, he said that the trade disputes and tariff war initiated by the US can be resolved through dialogue on the basis of equality of partners.
He said the issue of Taiwan is redline for China because Taiwan remains integral part of one China, adding that Nigeria has restated commitment to the one China policy inclusive of Taiwan under the control of the Peoples Republic of China.
