Eid-el-Fitr: ACF felicitates with Muslims, fumes over killing of 16 in Edo

From Femi Mustapha, in Kaduna

The Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) has congratulated the Muslim Ummah in Nigeria and across the world on the occasion of this year’s Eid-el-Fitr celebrations, marking the end of the 1446AH (2025) Ramadan fast.

In a statement signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Prof. Tukur Muhammad-Baba, ACF acknowledged that while Eid is traditionally a time of joy and festivity, this year’s celebrations are overshadowed by worsening economic conditions and persistent security challenges, particularly in the northern region.

“The existential challenges and tough living conditions make merriment difficult. Insurgency, terrorism, and banditry continue to threaten citizens, especially in the North,” the statement read.

ACF also condemned the recent killing of 16 Northerners in Uromi, Edo State, who were reportedly traveling home from Rivers State for the Sallah celebrations. The forum linked the incident to what it described as a pattern of ethnic profiling and targeted attacks against Northerners in parts of the country.

“Only a few weeks ago, ACF raised concerns about attacks on trailer drivers conveying goods through roads in the South East. The tragic incident in Edo State further illustrates the growing insecurity and lawlessness in the country,” the statement added.

Despite these challenges, the ACF expressed optimism that Nigeria’s problems are not insurmountable, emphasizing that good governance, justice, and equity remain crucial in addressing the country’s pressing issues.

The forum urged Nigerians to remain patient and continue praying for peace and stability, while also calling on security agencies to intensify efforts in tackling criminality.

“ACF calls on the Muslim Ummah and indeed all citizens to continue in prayers for Nigeria and its leaders. We also urge prudence, restraint, and patience as security agencies work to restore law and order across the country,” the statement concluded.
