The Nigeria Union of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), Taraba State chapter, joined the global community to celebrate International Women’s Day on Friday at the Press Center in Jalingo.
The event, which was organized by the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), Taraba State chapter, aimed to acknowledge women’s contributions to Nigeria’s growth and development.
In her address, the Chairperson of NAWOJ, Taraba State chapter, Mrs. Janet Audu, emphasized the importance of women’s voices being amplified in the media. “It is crucial for promoting women’s empowerment and equality,” she stressed.
Mrs. Audu also advised women journalists to pay attention to resource persons to get the most out of the celebration. “I charge you women in journalism to accelerate your action through reportage to ensure women’s voices are heard, and women get equal rights at homes and the political spheres of the nation,” she said.
A resource person, Mrs. Gloria Balugun, Deputy Director of News and Current Affairs at TSBS, presented a paper on the theme “Amplifying voices through reportage to accelerate action.” She highlighted the need for women’s voices to be amplified to address the challenges facing women in society.
Mrs. Balugun cited the case study of Senator Natasha and the President of the Senate, Senator Godswill Akpabio, as a breach in the communication gap. She emphasized the need to amplify women’s voices.
The celebration was attended by journalists, government officials, and other stakeholders, who pledged to support women’s empowerment and promote equality in Taraba State.
Citizenship Daily reports that women were encouraged to speak out against marginalization and subjugation. It also provided a platform for women to share their experiences and challenges.
The celebration was a success, with participants calling for more efforts to promote women’s empowerment and equality in Taraba State.
