The Taraba State government through the committee on cows/sheep recovery, on Thursday handed over a total number of 198 cows and 58 sheep and rams that were rustle within the areas of karim-Lamido local government area, Nasarawa and plateau states to their rightful owners.
Alhaji Aminu Jauro Hassan, Chairman Jalingo local government and the state ALGON chairman, made this known during the handing-over ceremony at the Taraba State college of agriculture, science and technology that the committee after rigorous checks by the 52 groups of Cattle rearers to ascertain the genuine owners , discovered that the cattle belonged to two different groups.
He noted that, a total of 198 cows and 58 sheep and rams were released to their owners, while 24 cows remained unclaimed. The recovery process was carried out under severe vetting, examination and interrogations.
“I’m happy to announce to you that after interviewing, screening and above all coming with 52 groups to come and look at the cows whether it belongs to them or not we thereafter arrive that this cows belongs to two different groups of people,” he said.
According to Alhaji Aminu Jauro Hassan, the two groups were able to present 90% proof of ownership before the committee, successfully claiming their animals. This breakthrough was made possible by the combined efforts of security agencies, local vigilantes, and hunters, who intercepted 222 cows and 58 sheep in the Gassol Local Government Area of Taraba.
Hassan commended the efforts of the security agencies, local vigilantes, and hunters, stating that their intelligence efforts led to the successful recovery of the rustled animals. The chairman also expressed gratitude to Governor Agbu Kefas for entrusting his committee with the responsibility of recovering the rustled cattle.
“The Committee has decided to stepdown 22 cows and release 198 cows to the perceived owners that have after igorous vetting and screening. We have unanimously agreed that the marks describe to the cows reach 90 percent,” Hassan added.
Also speaking, Ya’u Ibrahim Barewa, the Taraba State chairman of Miyetti Allah, praised the committee’s efforts, acknowledging their hard work in recovering the rustled cattle. His commendation adds to the growing recognition of the committee’s achievements, particularly in their collaboration with stakeholders to address cattle rustling in the state.
