From Femi Mustapha, in Kaduna

It was an atmosphere of jubilation and celebration in the Kuriga Community in Chikun  LGA, as the Kaduna State Governor, Sen. Uba Sani, commissioned the newly remodeled and furnished Primary School in Kuriga town.

The school came into limelight on 7th March 2024 when 137 schoolchildren were abducted but later rescued in Zamfara State.

Speaking during the commissioning, Gov. Sani said the remodeled school is a fulfillment of his promise to the people of the State to ensure quality education for the Children.

The Governor reiterated that “Education remains one of the most important agendas of our government because we believe it is a leveler; you will have to give the children of the poor a good education for them to compete and excel as they progress.

“I’m very happy because you can see how excited the children are for seeing me today, and as you can see, we have restructured, remodeled, and furnished the school.

“Their academic environment has been enhanced, which is very important, and the children are doing well in school.

“I’ve been speaking to the teachers and they are giving me good feedback. You can see their high spirits.

“So today, I am very happy. The people of Kuriga have been peaceful in Kaduna and, as I promised, remodeled not only the Kuriga primary school but others too, about 600 schools.

“Today, because of what happened in Kuriga, we have been able to drive our save school initiative, and we have remodeled, rebuilt, and also fenced over 200 schools in Kaduna State.”

On the issue of state security, Gov. Sani expressed his gratitude to the security agencies in the State, noting that the birnin-gwari community and a few others have enjoyed unprecedented peace in the last few months.

“I’m also happy because, coming from Birnin-Gwari LGA, we have just launched the groundbreaking of a 36km road in the LGA.

“I was also informed by the community Head that in the last six months, there have been no incidents of kidnapping or banditry on the road and that is unprecedented.

“Last year, we had a series of challenges, kidnapping almost daily, banditry between Kaduna, Kuriga, and Birnin-Gwari.

“So  I must commend the security agencies because they have done a lot of work, and I also commend the community members because they cooperated with the security agencies, which is why we are having peace even on the road to Birnin-Gwari..”He said

It would be recalled that the 137 schoolchildren were abducted by terrorists on March 7 but were freed on Sunday in Zamfara State.

The Governor during the  Farewell ceremony  promised  that the Uba Sani Foundation would rehabilitate and  remodel the school

He also announced a donation of N10m to the family of their teacher who died in the bandits’ captivity due to health complications during the welfare ceremony, and scholarships up to the university level for the children of his children.
