*Calls for joint action by Taraba, Benue states
From Godwin Agia, in Jalingo
The Taraba State Independent Committee has condemned the continued attacked and killing along the Takum/Wukari road by the suspected bandits.
Citizenship Daily reports that six travelers, including driver, were attacked and killed on Monday along Takum/Wukari road by the suspected bandits.
A statement issued by Prof. Talla Ngarka, Chairman of the Committee, expressed dismay over the relentless attacks and killings that have plagued the Takum/Wukari and Takum-Katsina-Ala roads, resulting in the tragic loss of innocent lives, and kidnapping of many in recent times.
The statement reads in parts: “Just today, gunmen once again emerged from the bushes to unleash terror on unsuspecting travelers.
“We learnt that the victims of this latest heinous act  include the following;
1. Tanko Danjuma (m) 45years of Yola Road Takum. Tribe-Jukun
2. Kabiru Gambo Limam. 45yrs, Hausa
3. Muktar Usman (m), 45yrs of Angwa maje-Takum.
4. Gambo Andemi (m), 38yrs of No5 tared road. Tribe-Kuteb Takum.
5. Abba Bulus (m) of General Hospital Takum. Tribe-Mumuye.
6. Samuel Pius (m), 50yrs of Mammy market Army barracks Takum. Tribe-Tiv.
“This attack comes only a few weeks after the brutal murder of the Gara of Chanchanji, a respected traditional ruler, on the same road. These consistent and coordinated acts of violence have left the  communities in the area in the state of fear and despair.
“We strongly condemn these senseless killings and call on the governments of Taraba and Benue States to urgently collaborate and take decisive action to address the insecurity that has become rampant in these areas.
“The safety of our citizens should be the highest priority, and it is imperative that both state governments work together to restore peace and order.
“We demand increased security presence and intelligence gathering along these roads to prevent further attacks.
“It is also crucial that the perpetrators of these crimes are apprehended and brought to justice to serve as a deterrent to others.
“The continuous bloodshed must end, and it is only through united and concerted efforts that we can ensure the safety of our people and the prosperity of Taraba State.
“We extend our deepest condolences to the families of the victims and pray for the peaceful repose of their souls. It is our collective hope that their deaths will not be in vain, but will instead galvanize all relevant stakeholders to act swiftly and decisively to end this cycle of violence and bloodshed” statement added.
