From Femi Mustapha, in Kaduna

As part of measures to foster peace and unity among the youths in Kubau Local Government Area of Kaduna State, the Accountant General of the State, Hon. Bashir Suleman Zuntu is organising the First Uba Sani Unity Football Competition for Youth of the Area.

Speaking during the flag-off of the tournament, the Promoter, Hon. Zuntun promised to promote peace and harmonious relationships through the competition.

According to him, Kabau Local Government Area hitherto had always enjoyed peaceful coexistence as demonstrated in the ongoing nationwide protests as they shunned it.

He said that youths in the society are a population that needs special attention, assuring that the Government of Kaduna State under the leadership of Senator Uba Sani has already put in place a programme that will benefit them.

According to him, no fewer than 16 youth teams would compete for the trophy saying he will assist some of the participants move forward in their football careers.

He however appealed to football stakeholders to come over and scout for talented young footballers among the participants as the tournament progressed

“This is why sport is key in ensuring peaceful coexistence and love for one another irrespective of ethnic, political, and religious divides.

“Sustainable development that provides responsible lifestyles for citizens of a country depends on how peace and stability are guaranteed and assured and  we are promoting the Uba Sani Unity Cup for that

“We will use sports as an instrument to bring our people together to interact, laugh, and have fun, while building talent among the youths, particularly those considering sport as a career,” he said.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, the Chairman of Kubau LGA Hon. Musa Saleh commended the Accountant General for organising the tournament, stressing that it was an opportunity for the young ones to showcase their potential that can take them to greater heights.
