From Adia Jildo, in Juba

The Transitional National Legislative Assembly (TNLA) has been forced to adjourn its Monday sitting after a significant breakdown of its main power supply generator.

The Assembly was poised to receive a critical joint report from the standing specialized committees on finance and economic planning, public accounts, and legislation and justice regarding the National Bureau of Statistics Bill 2024 for its third reading.

The parliament was lit by a smaller standby generator which could not handle or support the technical equipments of the parliament, making it hard for the sitting to continue as it would abruptly go off due to its capacity.

The main power supplier thee generator is crucial for powering the entire parliament and its technical machinery, which are essential for conducting legislative business.

“We have a lot of inconvenience this morning. As you can see, our technology is down. The ICT is not functioning. It’s because of the power supply. Our main generator is down” stated the first deputy speaker of parliament Oyet Nathaniel expressing the need for the adjoirnment “So it’s also hot inside here and the reliability of the generator also may not go for long.”

The sitting is expected to commence on Tuesday as the breakdown could have been sorted and ready for the report.

The parliament was also inshort of the Juba Electricity and Distribution Company, (JEDCO)  leaving the parliament with no options.
