From Abdullahi Shugaba, Katsina.

Katsina State Governor, Malam Dikko Umaru Radda has said that the state Government did not dispute it will be among the 31 states that stands the probable highest risk to flooding in the 2024 rainy season.

This is according to Malam Muhammad Ibrahim Kaulaha, Chief Press Secretary (CPS), to Katsina State Governor in a statement today.

Kaulaha disputed this in reaction to a media report that the state Commissioner of Environment Alhaji Musa Adamu Funtua argued to a report by the Minister of Water Resources and Sanitation, Mr.Joseph Utsev that Katsina state is among the 31 states that stands the high-risk of probable flooding in 2024.

Kaulaha explained that the report was said to have emanated from an interview with Adamu Funtua, which he granted to journalists in his office in Katsina recently.

According to him, the Honourable  Commissioner for Environment has never said that, pointing out that the commissioner was quoted out of context in the interview he granted.

“The media report  is not only mischievous but also misleading.

“We therefore urge the public and media in particular, to disregard the story not only as fallacious but fake.

“We wish to affirm that the Governor Radda-led administration has started putting necessary mechanisms in place to mitigate the havoc the flood might cause in the State based on the predictions.

“We believe the Hon. Minister made his statement based on scientific facts, based on weather forecast and predictions,”  he said.

He added: “Therefore we wish to reiterate that Katsina state government will not rest on its oars to mitigate the situation and save  lives and properties

“We don’t  have doubt on the 2024 Annual flood outlook which  listed Katsina state among  the states  with probable high-risk of flooding in the upcoming rainy season”.

The CPS said that the Katsina State Government under the leadership of Dikko Umaru Radda is set to address any occurrence of flooding or natural disaster in the state.
