The New Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has expressed confidence that its Kano State governorship candidate, Comrade Aminu Abdulsalam, will be included in the final list of candidates for the 2027 general elections, insisting that he met all the requirements set by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
The spokesperson of the Kwankwasiyya Movement in the NDC, Hon. Habibu Saleh Mailemo, stated this while reacting to the omission of the party’s governorship candidate from the final list released by INEC on Saturday.
Mailemo said the party had no reason to believe that its candidate had any outstanding issues with the electoral commission, as he had fulfilled all the guidelines required to qualify as the party’s flag bearer.
He explained that shortly after INEC released the list, thousands of party supporters within and outside the country expressed concern over the development through the party’s and Kwankwasiyya Movement’s social media platforms.
“We quickly responded by contacting INEC headquarters to make inquiries about the issue. They confirmed to us that efforts were underway to resolve it on or before Monday, attributing the omission to a technical problem in the electoral process,” Mailemo said.
He urged party supporters to remain calm, adding that every successful political process comes with challenges.
Mailemo further disclosed that the names of six NDC governorship candidates across six states were omitted from the final list, expressing confidence that the commission would address the matter after acknowledging the problem.
He called on party members and supporters to continue mobilising voters and campaigning for the NDC at all levels ahead of next year’s general elections.
INEC released its final list of governorship candidates for the 2027 general elections on Saturday, with the omission of several candidates’ names reportedly generating controversy among political parties and their supporters across the country.
