Benue state Commissioner for Justice and Public Order Prof Yangien Ornguga has said the state is inundated with garnishee orders that it is tackling.
Prof Ornguga said this at the weekend during an interaction with Correspondents’ Chapel members in his office, intimating that government have continued to engage lawyers on issue of garnishee.
He said government has been inviting concerned parties and negotiating with them, averring that they engage in installmental payment of money.
He passionately appealed to lawyers who have secured garnishee orders from courts to continue to show understanding with government especially in the midst of competiting demands.
The Justice Commissioner also, informed that the state have reviewed some obsolete laws including Child Rights Law, Penal Code, Gender based violence, education and local government laws to make them answer to present challenges.
He said his office in partnership with the National Agency for Prohibition and Trafficking in Persons NAPTIP have been in the frontline against human Trafficking, adding that they are prosecuting several sexual anf gender based violence cases as well as created a desk at the Internallly Displaced Persons camp, IDPs to tackle sexual violence.
The Attorney General of the State said government has cleared arrears of judiciary staff and upgraded casual staff pay from 5,000 to 20,000.
“We are also, improving on the working condition of staff with the construction of a new office complex”, Ornguga said.
