JINAN, Sept. 7 (Xinhua) — Wang Jianjun, former vice chairman of the China Securities Regulatory Commission (CSRC), was sentenced to life imprisonment on Monday for taking bribes worth 93.4 million yuan (about 13.78 million U.S. dollars).

Wang has also deprived of his political rights for life, with all his personal property confiscated, according to a verdict issued by the Intermediate People’s Court of Weifang City in east China’s Shandong Province.
From 2005 to 2019, Wang took advantage of his official positions to provide assistance to relevant organizations and individuals in matters such as companies going public, corporate financing and securing business contracts.
In return, he accepted money and property, either personally or through a third party, the verdict said.
The court said Wang’s bribery involved an especially large amount and that his conduct had caused particularly significant losses to the interests of the state and the people.
However, after being taken into custody, Wang truthfully confessed his crimes and voluntarily disclosed criminal facts that were previously unknown to investigators.
He also admitted his guilt, expressed remorse, and saw part of the illicit gains recovered, according to the verdict.
The court said these circumstances warranted leniency in sentencing.
The case was heard publicly on June 10. In its annual report outlining its work priorities for 2026, the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection (CCDI) of the Communist Party of China (CPC) pledged to deepen efforts to combat corruption in key sectors, including finance, state-owned enterprises, energy, education, academic societies and associations, development zones, and bidding and tendering
