The Administration of Criminal Justice (ACJL) Support Working Group in Kaduna has joined millions worldwide in commemorating the 2026 World Environment Day, emphasizing the importance of strict enforcement of environmental laws.

In a statement released to mark the day, the group’s Chairman, Dr. Terngu Gwar, stated that environmental sustainability is closely linked to the broader pillars of public health, social stability, and economic prosperity.

He said that protecting the environment should no longer be viewed as just a developmental issue but as a crucial matter of justice.

“The environment remains the foundation of human survival. Actions that undermine environmental regulations not only damage ecosystems; they weaken the rule of law and directly threaten the rights, welfare, and safety of our citizens,” he said.

The group pointed out that Kaduna State faces increasing environmental challenges, including climate change impacts, deforestation, land degradation, and poor waste management.

They noted that these issues often lead to resource-related conflicts that disturb community stability and harm ecosystems.

To address these threats, the Kaduna ACJL Support Working Group advocates for a multi-sectoral approach.

They called for stronger collaboration among government agencies, law enforcement, traditional and community leaders, civil society organizations, and the private sector.

The group stressed that a unified effort is vital to hold those responsible for environmental crimes accountable and to ensure consistent enforcement of existing laws.

The statement also urged all Kaduna residents and institutions to adopt more sustainable practices in their daily routines.

By adhering to environmental laws and embracing sustainable practices, the group believes the state can create a healthier, more resilient future for upcoming generations.

Reaffirming its mission, the group declared its ongoing commitment to promoting accountability and efficient justice administration.

They expressed hope that through collective effort, Kaduna can effectively tackle its environmental issues while encouraging long-term development.

“As we celebrate World Environment Day, let us reaffirm our shared responsibility to promote lawful and responsible stewardship of our natural resources.

“Through collective action, environmental sustainability and justice can be achieved simultaneously for the benefit of all,” the statement concluded.
