As big names join ADC in Kaduna, party postpones congresses

From Femi Mustapha, in Kaduna

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Kaduna State has postponed its upcoming State, Local Government, and Polling Units Congresses, originally scheduled for April 7, 2026.

The decision was announced by the State Chairman, Hon. Ahmed Tijjani Mustapha, in a statement released today, Monday April 6.

According to Mustapha, the postponement is necessary to accommodate a large number of prominent defectors who recently joined the party, including a three-time PDP gubernatorial candidate, Alh Isa Mohammed Ashiru; a serving senator, Barr Khalid Soba; Sen Danjuma Lar; four National Assembly members; four State Assembly members; and others from various political parties.

Mustapha explained that the party values equity, fairness, and internal democracy, and holding the congresses at this time would have been premature and could have jeopardized the representation of the new members.

“The African Democratic Congress (ADC) Kaduna State, believes that conducting the Congress at this time would be premature, futile, and may affect the representation of these New members because it will not reflect the true position of the party’s growing strength at the moment,” he said.

The congresses have been rescheduled for the first week of May 2026 to ensure fairness and allow all members to participate.

Mustapha assured that the party had communicated the decision to the National Headquarters and apologized for any inconvenience this may cause.

“We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and appreciate your understanding,” Mustapha stated, emphasizing the party’s commitment to inclusivity and internal democracy.

The postponement is viewed as a strategic move to strengthen the party’s position and ensure that all members, including the new defectors, can participate in the congresses and contribute to the party’s growth.
