From Usman Abubakar, in Maiduguri

The Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), Gen. Olufemi Oluyede, may have squarely blamed communities in Borno and Yobe states for the persistence of the Boko Haram/ISWAP terror tormenting the two North-East states.

“For us to end the Boko Haram war the people of Borno and Yobe states must take ownership of the war,” he posted while responding to questions from newsmen in Maiduguri, Wednesday, March 18.
“They are complicit in the war because the terrorists are their own brothers, sisters, cousins,” Gen. Oluyede alleged, insisting, “unless they take ownership of the war, it may not end soon.”
He cited an instance when in Kukawa which was attacked, and after troops cordoned the location, it was discovered that two of the wounded attackers hail from the community.
“For us to end this war, all hands must be on deck, the military and the communities,” Gen. Oluyede posited.
The CDS, who was accompanied by the the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Waidi Shuaibu, said they were in Maiduguri to plan the modalities to checkmate the resurgence of terror over the last one month. END
