From Femi Mustapha, in Kaduna

A sense of joy and relief swept Kaduna State as Governor Uba Sani welcomed back all 183 kidnapped victims from Kurmin Wali, Kajuru Local Government Area, hailing the successful rescue as a “day of joy” for the state.

Speaking at a ceremony to receive the rescued victims, Sani expressed profound gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the National Security Adviser, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, and security agencies for their unwavering support and collaboration in securing the release of the abducted citizens.

“I want to sincerely thank President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who has stood with us from day one, showing deep concern and leadership,” Sani said, commending the state government’s efforts in working tirelessly with security agencies to protect lives and property.

The governor recalled that the incident had shocked the state, but swift action by security agencies had led to the successful rescue of all the victims. He added, “I also thank the citizens who prayed for us. Even those who chose to politicise the abduction, we pray for them. Because turning the suffering of citizens into politics is unfortunate and unacceptable.”

Sani announced that a military base would be established in the Kajuru-Kachia axis to enhance security in the area, and that the state government would construct a road linking Kurmin Wali to the main road, as well as a hospital and a skills acquisition center for the community.

“This is the Kaduna model — working quietly with community leaders, religious leaders, youth leaders, local government officials, and security agencies at the grassroots,” Sani said, reaffirming the state government’s commitment to prioritizing the safety and well-being of its citizens.

Rev. Caleb Maaji, Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Kaduna State, expressed gratitude to the governor and security agencies, saying, “We are grateful, grateful, grateful” for the safe return of the victims.

A community leader echoed the sentiment, saying, “We have passed the test,” adding that the enemy had been put to shame.

The rescued victims would undergo medical examination and psychosocial care before returning home, the governor said, adding that the state government would support their livelihoods.

The ceremony was attended by the Commissioner of Police, Kaduna State Command, other security officials, government representatives, and community leaders.

The rescue operation involved a joint effort by the Nigerian Army, Police, and other security agencies, with support from the National Security Adviser and the Federal Government.

Governor Sani praised the security agencies for their professionalism and dedication, saying, “We must remain patriotic and supportive of their efforts.”

As the ceremony came to a close, community leaders and rescued victims offered prayers and expressions of gratitude, thanking the governor and security agencies for their tireless efforts in bringing them home.

The event served as a testament to the power of collaboration and the unwavering commitment to protecting the lives and dignity of citizens.
