Despite losing the semi-final match in the ongoing African Cup of Nations (AFCON 2025) to host Morocco yesterday, the Federal Government of Nigeria has showered praises on the Eagles for their resilience and hard work.

The match ended goalless after 90 minutes regulation time and an added 30 minutes extra time.

The Super Eagles however lost 2-4 on penalty shootout in the hotly contestested match.

Nigeria will now face Egypt for the third place match. Egypt lost their semi-final match earlier on Wednesday to Senegal by a lone long range goal fired by Sadio Mane from outside the 18-yard box.

According to the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, a fellow of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations, even in defeat, the Super Eagles showed character, teamwork, and resilience, and those qualities matter deeply to Nigeria.

The Minister wrote in a statement signed by him on Thursday (today):

“Dear Super Eagles,, thank you for giving your all and for representing Nigeria with pride and dignity.

“Even in defeat, you showed character, teamwork, and resilience, and those qualities matter deeply to the nation you represent.

“Football has its highs and lows, but your effort, commitment, and fighting spirit throughout this tournament have earned the respect and gratitude of Nigerians at home and abroad.

“You reminded us that wearing the green and white is about courage, unity, and never giving up. Hold your heads high. Learn from this experience, stay united, and return stronger. Nigeria remains proud of you and grateful for the joy and hope you gave us during this competition.

“Well done, Super Eagles.
The nation stands with you, always.”
