The Minority Caucus in the House of Representatives has called on the Federal Government to urgently tackle insecurity, inflation, unemployment and corruption, as Nigerians begin the year 2026.

In a New Year message issued on Wednesday, the Caucus congratulated Nigerians at home and in the diaspora for witnessing the New Year despite the socio-economic challenges experienced in 2025.
The lawmakers described the situation of the country in the outgoing year as “worrisome,” citing rising insecurity, spiralling inflation, widespread hunger, poverty and growing unemployment as major setbacks to national development.
They stressed that peace and security are fundamental to meaningful development, urging the Federal Government to adopt comprehensive and sincere strategies to address insecurity, infrastructure deficits, youth unemployment and corruption.
According to the Caucus, achieving progress in 2026 will require deliberate and intentional leadership, as well as collective efforts from citizens and leaders at all levels of government.
The Minority Caucus also called on Nigerians to embrace unity, inclusivity and mutual trust, noting that the country’s diversity remains one of its greatest strengths.
“No tribe or group can build Nigeria alone,” the statement said, adding that collaboration and national cohesion are essential to overcoming the nation’s challenges and achieving sustainable development.
The lawmakers assured Nigerians that the Minority Caucus would remain resolute in 2026, pledging to actively engage in legislative oversight and actions in the interest of citizens’ welfare.
The message was signed by the Minority Leader, Rep. O.K. Chinda; Minority Whip, Rt. Hon. Ali Isa J.C.; Deputy Minority Leader, Rt. Hon. Aliyu Madaki; and Deputy Minority Whip, Rt. Hon. George Ozodinobi.
