The Chinese Ambassador to Nigeria, Ambassador Yu Dunhai has paid a courtesy call on the President of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Commission, H.E. Dr. Omar Alieu Touray in furtherance of the South-South Cooperation.

The visit was held at the ECOWAS Commission headquarters in Abuja today, Thursday December 4, 2025.
While presenting a China-made vehicle to President Touray for use in his official duties, Ambassador Yu Dunhai said that over the past 50 years since its establishment, ECOWAS has played a significant role in promoting regional integration, maintaining peace and stability, and advancing democratic governance in West Africa, making it the most influential sub-regional organization in Africa.
Dunhai added that the relationship between China and ECOWAS serves as a model of South-South cooperation and a vivid reflection of China-Africa friendship.
The ECOWAS headquarters office building, constructed with Chinese assistance, stands as a landmark project of bilateral cooperation, the Ambassador noted.
He said also that the recommendations of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China for Formulating the 15th Five-Year Plan for National Economic and Social Development clearly state that China will share more development opportunities with countries around the world.
He said China is willing to accelerate the implementation of zero-tariff measures in Africa to bring new opportunities for West Africa.
In response, ECOWAS Commission President, Touray expressed gratitude for China’s assistance and support to the institutional and capacity-building of ECOWAS.
He said ECOWAS admires China’s development achievements, supports the four global initiatives proposed by China, and is committed to strengthening exchanges and cooperation with China to open a new chapter in bilateral relations.
