As Nigeria celebrates its 65th Independence Anniversary, Citizenship Media Limited has called for deeper citizens and government engagements to pave the way for sustainable national growth and development across all sectors.

Citizenship Media Limited is the publisher of Citizenship Daily and Citizenship Weekend Newspapers, as well as Citizenship online via citizenshipdaily.com.

A statement on Wednesday (today) signed by Saidu Abubakar, PhD, the General Manager, Administration, of the Citizenship Media group said at 65, Nigeria deserves to take its rightful place at the world stage by mobilising citizens to be on the same page with government on matters of development and nationhood.

The statement said for Nigeria to practically assume its role as the giant of Africa as it is often said, the government needs to build a consensus with the citizens based on trust and patriotism to evolve a common front that is respected at the global stage.

It said that while Nigeria seeks to clinch a permanent seat at the Security Council of the United Nations (UN) as Africa’s representative, the government in power should necessarily promote and sustain strategic and non-partisan engagement with its citizens at various levels of national life.

The domestic citizens’ support, the Media group said, is fundamental to the achievement of national goals both at home, at the bilateral and multilateral levels.

The Media group also urged the citizens to play more active roles to deepen democracy and responsible governance at the national and subnational levels.

While wishing Nigeria and Nigerians a happy 65th Independence Anniversary celebrations, Citizenship called on Citizens to take their voting rights seriously to be able to empower a government that will be more responsive and responsible to the wishes and aspirations of the Nigerian people.

It said as the 2027 general elections draw nearer, all citizens eligible to vote must take that duty as national service, as failure to do so will empower mediocrity in governance.
