Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna State has advised the opposition to stop politicizing insecurity, saying that banditry in the North West is driven by poverty, unemployment, and neglect of rural communities, rather than ideology.
Speaking at the public presentation of a book on Sheikh Abubakar Mahmud Gumi, Governor Sani stressed that insecurity cannot be resolved solely through the use of firearms and that a non-kinetic approach is necessary.
The Governor highlighted the success of the Kaduna Peace Model, which emphasizes community-led initiatives and non-kinetic approaches to tackling insecurity. He cited the case of Birnin Gwari, where the Emir spearheaded the return of peace after a six-month effort to understand the root causes of insecurity.
Governor Sani emphasized that poverty and unemployment are major drivers of banditry in the North West.
He stressed the need for a non-kinetic approach to address insecurity, involving traditional, religious leaders, and other stakeholders.
The Governor insisted that leaders must take responsibility for protecting their people and addressing the root causes of insecurity.
