From Femi Mustapha, in Kaduna

The former Minister of Justice and Attorney General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, has narrated how his convoy was attacked by suspected political thugs allegedly belonging to the All Progressive Congress (APC) in Kebbi State.

The incident occurred on Monday when he returned from a condolence visit to the Emir of Gwandu and the family of late Imam Tukur Kola in Birnin Kebbi.

Writing on his verified Facebook account on Tuesday, Malami described the day of the attack as “sad” and one that “unfolded negative history in the political developments of Kebbi State.”

According to him, his convoy was “violently attacked near my private residence by political thugs that emerged from State APC headquarters positioned very close to my residence.”

Stones and dangerous objects were hurled at the convoy, vehicles were damaged, and several people sustained injuries, including fractures.

Malami alleged that the attack was politically orchestrated, funded, and coordinated by powerful figures who have abandoned governance for “do-or-die politics.”

He claimed that the presence of APC party stalwarts and close relations of the Governor were visibly noticed on site when the attack was being perpetrated. Malami also expressed concern that the security personnel present did not make any arrests, suggesting deliberate inaction

The Kebbi State government has denied involvement in the attack, with the Chief Press Secretary, Ahmed Idris, stating that Malami had his own motive for making the allegations. Idris added that there was no member of the APC at the party’s office at the time of the incident, and the state government had no hand in the attack

Malami warned that the Kebbi State Government should not fear him, but rather the consequences of their own actions, the judgment of history, and the anger of the people who have been left in abject poverty, insecurity, and despair.

He emphasized that the incident was not about him personally, but about the dangerous path the state and country are treading, where thuggery replaces dialogue, and intimidation replaces governance.
