From Joseph Uchenna, in Makurdi

The National Hydro Electric Power Producing Development Areas Commission (N-HYPPADEC), has urged Nigerians to adopt intelligence gathering system to stop the rising insecurity across the nation.

The acting Managing Director of N-HYPPADEC, Haruna Jimoh Gabi made this call while presenting relief materials to Benue State Government at the headquarter of the State Emergency Management Agency, SEMA for distribution to victims of the recent alleged herdsmen attack in Yelwata in Guma and Naka in Gwer West.

Amongst the food and non-food items presented include, 195 pieces of mattresses, 195 bags of rice, 130 battle of palm oil, 65 cartons of bathing soap, 65 packs of treated mosquito net, 65 cartons of washing detergent, 10 numbers of hero hunter machine, 156 piece of rubber mats and 65 cartoons of maggi

Gabi expressed sympathy to the victims and stressed the need for people to be security cautious in order to prevent future attacks and other disasters.

“People should help the security agents on intelligence gathering to be able to avert re occurrence of attacks in their communities because issue of security should not be left in the hands of security men alone.

“We should be more sensitive to our environment and should always help our security men with intelligence gathering to avert future occurrence.

“Despite the Agency’s financial constraints, we have been able to get some relief materials for victims of attacks in the state.

He however, appealed to the state government to ensure judicious distribution of the relief materials.

In his remark, Benue State Governor, Hyacinth Alia represented by his Deputy Sam Ode expressed his administration’s willingness to partner with the National Hydro Electric Power Producing Areas in planning and forecasting to forestall disaster in the state.

The Governor lauded the support of the agency in their contributions to economic growth of the state and promised that the government would also collaborate with the agency on disaster management.

“HYPPADEC has been contributing to the economy of Benue State and also lifting people out of poverty, it has risen to the occasion to alleviate the suffering in the areas that were affected.

“In the future, we will work with you so that we can plan on the issue of disaster management, we should not only be responding when it occurs, we can act in anticipation of some of these things and address them before they happen.

“As time goes on, we will collaborate and engage with you to carry out our forecasting so that our community will not continue to be ravaged by natural and non natural consequences”, Alia maintained.
