Ahead of the 2027 general elections, a support group of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Youth Vanguard has asked the party’s Presidential candidate in 2023, Prince Adewole Adebayo to perish his ambition of determining the fate of the party.
The support group insisted that Adebayo performed very abysmally in his polling unit, which shows that he has no political weight to determine what happens in the party in 2027.
This came following speech by the Presidential candidate allegedly giving conditions for the SDP to admit defectors and new members.
At a press conference in Abuja on Tuesday, the group said Prince Adebayo scored only 19 votes in his polling unit, which placed him on a distant fourth position.
In a statement, National Coordinator SPD Youth Vanguard, Bright Kenneth said, “We are compelled to speak out in light of Prince Adebayo’s recent utterances, which we consider divisive, misleading, and unfortunate, especially coming from someone who once flew the presidential flag of our great party in the 2023 general elections.
“Let it be clearly stated: Prince Adewole Adebayo has no moral ground to question the presence or contributions of new entrants into the Social Democratic Party. The 2023 presidential election results, particularly from his own polling unit, speaks for itself.
“In Polling Unit 19, Ward 10, Ondo West Local Government Area of Ondo State, where Prince Adebayo himself hails from, he recorded a shameful performance. According to official results: APC (Bola Tinubu): 52 votes, PDP: (Atiku Abubakar): 39 votes, Labour Party: (Peter Obi) 27 votes and SDP (Prince Adebayo): 19 votes.
“Coming a distant fourth in his own polling unit is a clear verdict from the people he claims to represent. Rather than reflect on this resounding rejection, Prince Adebayo is instead going around making baseless accusations and attempting to create factions within the SDP.
“We find this behavior not only embarrassing but dangerous to the unity and future of the Social Democratic Party. Prince Adebayo has continued to behave like an opportunist who seeks to reap where he has not sown. This party made him. It gave him a platform, visibility, and respect. Yet today, he chooses to undermine it.”
The group further challenged Adebayo to publicly present the results of his polling unit to the media and party faithful and desist from making further unguided and inflammatory statements that could destabilize the party.
The SPD Youth Vanguard also urged the leadership of the party to remain vigilant and cautious in dealing with individuals like Prince Adebayo, whom they alleged to double-speak and having self-serving interests.
“The SDP is bigger than any one individual. Its the party for Nigerians. We remain committed to building a strong, united, and forward-looking party that reflects the dreams and aspirations of Nigerian youth and the Nigerian people”.
The group equally passed a vote of confidence on the leadership of the SDP led by Alhaji Shehu Musa Gabam and the National Working Committee (NWC) members for creating a political platform that Nigerian youths can rely on for a better country.
