Veteran journalist and co-founder of Newswatch Magazine, Alhaji Yakubu Mohammed, has been pronounced dead.
He died in Lagos today after a brief illness at the age of 75 years.
An extended family member and close associate of the late Yakubu Mohammed, Alhaji Yakubu Akor confirmed the death to Citizenship Newspaper early morning of Wednesday.
The late Mohammed is Igala by tribe, and hails from Kogi East.
Akor, a retired top management staff of NICON Insurance, and a fellow of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR) since 1996, disclosed that arrangements for the burial of the late Yakubu Mohammed is being made in Lagos as of this morning in accordance with Islamic rites.
It was not immediately clear the trigger for Mohammed’s death, but his associates said he had battled with recurrent waist pain which was administered by a Lagos hospital.
Yakubu Mohammed’s death comes barely two months after his co-founder at Newswatch, Chief Dan Agese passed away, also in Lagos.
Agbese died on the morning of Monday, November 17, 2025. He was aged 81, according to his family.
