Women empowerment, social inclusion gain momentum in Kaduna

The Accountant General of Kaduna State, Hon.Bashir Suleiman Zuntu, has lauded Kaduna State Governor Senator Uba Sani for his transformative, impactful, and women-oriented programmes and policies, saying this was done through various interventions and empowerment as well as appointments of women into key government positions.

He said this during the presentation of cash grant to 500 women from the Kubau Local Government Area via the Kubau Women for Uba Sani in collaboration with the Kubau Local Government Council. The event wad held in Anchau today, Monday.

According to him, Governor Sani has brought a remarkable improvement in the fortunes of women in the state.

Bashir Suleiman Zuntu gave graphical details of how the Governor’s policies and programs have significantly improved the economic and social standing of women across the state.

He said that Governor Sani recently launched three groundbreaking policies, including the Kaduna State Women Economic Empowerment Policy, the Women Peace and Security Action Plan, and the Youth Peace and Security Action Plan.

The Account General, who is the founder of Kubau Women for Uba Sani, said the Association was formed in 2022 when he was the Chairman of Kubau LG with 2000 members who played significant roles in the election of Governor Uba Sani to office in 2023.

He said people of like minds like the member representing Kabua in Kaduna Ste House of Assembly, Hon.Ilyasu Shehu Yunusa, the current Chairman of Kubau LGA, Hon. Musa Saleh Banki, and himself decided to put their resources together to empower the women because if you empowered a woman, you have empowered the whole family.

He disclosed that the 500 beneficiaries will be given a Cash grant of N50,000 each to enable them to start something that will help them.

He assured that more women Will benefit from the Cash grant as time progresses.

“We are all aware that this is Yuletide season and we decided to give out the Grant to enable our women to start something.

“Some few days ago we distributed Rice to them for Christmas to appreciate their contributions to the society ”

“We will continue to invest in the well-being of women, advocate for better policies and programs that target
widows, youths, and women, foster independence, and reduce poverty level across the LGA”

In his remarks, the Chairman of Kubau LGA, Hon. Musa Saleh Banki, Commended the peaceful coexistence between the Christians and the Muslims in the local Government Area, urging them to continue to sustain it.

He explained that women are more prone to socioeconomic vulnerabilities and bear more of the brunt of poverty than men, especially considering that educational attainment is relatively lower among women. “This makes it imperative for us to continuously pursue programs targeting the socioeconomic empowerment of women.”

He urged the beneficiaries of the N50,000 cash grants to use the funds judiciously to establish sustainable livelihoods.

A beneficiary Justina Sunny from Anchau Ward expressed her gratitude first to the State Governor Senator Uba Sani who deemed it fit to appoint their son as the Accountant General and give them Hon Banki as the Council Chairman

She expressed her gratitude to the Kubau Women for Uba Sani, Kue bau LGA, and all others who contribute to the funds.

Similarly Mari Musa also from Anchau Ward said in a lifetime she never held N50,000 as her thanks to Allah and the facilitators of the funds

Another beneficiary, Comfort Alkali from Pambegua Ward, said it is God who will reward the facilitators of the Grant because it came as a surprise to her.
