Civil Society Organization, African Mathematics Project (AMP), Monday, commenced presentation of awards to top-performing Mathematics students in Taraba State.
The CEO of African Mathematics Project, Mr. Abraham Moses disclosed this during an event in Kingdom Heritage Model Schools Jalingo.
He said that the aim is to end Mathematics phobia and improve performances in African schools by engaging pupils early and encouraging them to develop a passion for the subject.
Represented by Mr. Zebedee Daniel, Moses explained that the award is to encourage pupils to overcome their fear of mathematics, stressed that the project has taken a significant step by awarding ambassadors of mathematics, recognizing pupils who have shown exceptional performance in the subject.
“The aim is to instill the love of mathematics in primary school pupils and train them as ambassadors of mathematics.
“The project identifies 1,100 top-performing mathematics students in Kingdom heritage model schools and awards them as ambassadors of mathematics. This aims to create a positive impact on the pupils’ perception of mathematics.
Meanwhile, Head teacher of the school, Rifkatu Ali, commended AMP team for the initiative. She expressed that the selection of her institution among best mathematics schools award was a moral burster for teachers to ensure the subject becomes students top choices for studies.
In their reaction, little miss Ananum and Msendoo Anna Iormua both said, they were inspired by their mothers to love mathematics.
The little girls who both lead mathematics record in their classes expressed that their desire is to become mathematics ambassador, build a chain of mathematics studies that would be recognize globally.
