South Sudan Certificate of Secondary Education (CSE) examinations have remained unmarked after 5 months due to lack funding to the examination council for marking.
Simon Nyok Deng, the Secretary General of the National Examination Council at the Ministry of General Education said the act has left a section of the education sector affected as the students are left redundant awaiting their result to take the next step in the education sector.
“Until today five months down the line, examination results for senior four have not been released because of issues related to finances. We want to ask that despite the challenges, lets try to finance the education sector so that critical services don’t remain unattended to,” said Simon.
Simon made the statement during the launch of Arabic language and handover of over 2.5 million Islamic Religious text textbooks to the ministry of education by United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund UNICEF) and Save the Children South Sudan to the ministry of General Education and instructions in Juba.
“We need to support our people by giving them resources that they use to make critical decisions for themselves,” he said.
“You have to double your effort (members of parliament) so that you are able to release or advice the presidencies to release the resource to fund the education sector,” calling on the members of parliament to put much effort into pushing for funding.
South Sudan’s Ministry for General Education and Instruction, last month announced commencement of marking of South Sudan Certificate of Secondary Education (CSE) examination scripts, four months after the conclusion of the examination citing approval of some funding.
Nearly 45,000 students across the country sat the examination in December last year.
