*Says el rufai not yet recognised party member

The Kaduna State Executive Committee of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) has categorically rejected the purported dissolution of the State Working Committee as contained in a letter from the National Secretariat dated 25 February 2025 with no reference number, no tracking identity, and no proper mailing/correspondence address of the Kaduna State branch.
The Assistant National Secretary of the SDP, North West Zone, Idris Inuwa, said this during a press conference in Kaduna today (Friday).
Idris Inuwa explained that the SDP constitution states very clearly the process and procedure to follow in dissolving a State Exco; which includes but is limited to initiating an investigation, setting up a committee, providing a fair hearing transparently before a decision is taken; none of which was done-only the resort to the illegal unilateral letter of dissolution.
Consequently, the purported establishment of a caretaker committee under a single individual lacks any legal basis, rendering it null, void, and of no effect whatsoever.
The Asst. National Secretary warned that any attempt to dissolve the legitimately constituted leadership of the party in the state is not only unconstitutional but also a direct affront to the principles of due process and internal democracy.
“Such an action is therefore tantamount to an unlawful interference in the party’s governance and an affront to the collective decision of its members.
“This, therefore, underscores the nullity of the purported setting up of a caretaker committee under one individual!
“The Kaduna State Executive Committee is the legitimate outcome of a duly conducted State Congress, reflecting the will of the party members and adhering strictly to the party’s constitutional provisions.
“This body holds a four-year mandate that remains valid, binding, and legally recognized throughout its tenure. Any attempt to arbitrarily dissolve this duly constituted leadership structure not only violates the party’s constitution but also undermines the fundamental principles of due process, fairness, and internal democracy.
“While we recognize the growing interest of individuals and groups in joining the SDP, we emphasize that there are well-defined guidelines and constitutional provisions governing membership admission.
In light of this, the Party called on its National Secretariat to immediately withdraw the letter purporting to dissolve the Kaduna State Working Committee stating that failure to do so will leave them with no option but to seek redress through appropriate channels, including the courts of law.
“We remain committed to upholding the principles of democracy, due process, and the rule of law in the administration of our party.”
Furthermore, the Party denied knowing former Kaduna Governor, Mal. Nasir El-Rufai is recognized as a member, stating that the rumored membership is untrue.
The Asst. National Secretary disclosed that neither the Chairman of the Kaduna North Local Government Chapter in Kaduna State nor the leadership of Unguwar Sarki ward has any records of these memberships.
“Consequently, Mal. Nasir El-Rufa’i and his co-travelers are not recognized members of the SDP in Kaduna State at this time. We advise him and any other interested individuals to follow the proper procedures if they wish to officially become members of the party.
“The State Executive Council (Exco) remains open and welcoming to all prospective members who adhere to these established procedures,” he said.
