The Yobe state Governor, Hon. Mai Mala Buni, has urged politicians across the state to see politics as service to society and an opportunity to impact on human communities.
Governor Buni made the called during the swearing-in ceremony of the newly appointed Commissioners, Head of Service, Permanent Secretaries and Special Advisers in Damaturu.
The Governor said that when politics was not seen as a form of service, it could become a means of oppression, marginalisation and even destruction.
He advised politicians to take politics seriously with a view to affirm the duty of each individual to acknowledge the reality and value of the freedom offered to serve.
Governor Buni also called on politicians to desist from jealousy and envy. “I want to caution that people should desist from jealousy and envy. For everyone of us, Almighty Allah has apportioned a provision and no one will take that away.
“Ours is a government of one family, we will continue to support and create job opportunities for our people to enable them recover fully from the destruction of the Boko Haram insurgency, and make life more meaningful to our people”.
Commenting on the importance of peace in the state, he called on people to continue to pray for peace and bumper harvest in this year’s cropping season.
He urged civil servants and politicians in the state to go back to farm. “Every resident should fully get involved by planting crops or engaging in animal husbandry for food security in the state and the country”.
“We are investing massively on agriculture this year, even as we are going to provide farming inputs to at least 20 youths from each political wards in the state, to empower the people especially youths”, he said.
