From Femi Mustapha, in Kaduna
The Kaduna State Police Command has recovered 210 rounds of 7.56mm ammunition that were abandoned by fleeing suspects along the Zaria–Funtua Highway.
The Command reported that the ammunition was discovered on Tuesday at approximately 4:15 PM, after the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Samaru received information about occupants of a black Volkswagen Golf who suspiciously threw a sack from a moving commercial vehicle at the Dogo Itace area in Samaru, Zaria.
Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Mansir Hassan, confirmed the recovery in a statement, explaining that the patrol team promptly responded to the scene where the sack was found. “Upon inspecting the bag, the officers discovered a total of 210 rounds of 7.56mm ammunition,” he stated. He noted that the suspects likely panicked due to the “heightened motorized and aggressive patrols” currently being enforced by the Command.
The DPO notified other divisions along the Zaria–Funtua corridor to be on the lookout for a possible interception of the vehicle; however, the suspects managed to escape due to delays in the information relay.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Rabiu Muhammad, urged residents to remain vigilant and to provide timely intelligence to security agencies. He announced that a full-scale manhunt for the suspects had begun and warned criminals to steer clear of Kaduna or face the full consequences of the law.
