The Nasarawa State Police Command has foiled an attempt to traffic three children in Mararaba Karu local government area.
A statement from the command Public Relations officer, PRO, Ramhan Nansel said a 22 year-old woman, Aisha Hashiru, was arrested while trying to abduct the children, aged 4, 5, and 6, under the pretext of buying them biscuits.
The command PRO said police responded promptly to a distress call and rescued the children and suspect from an angry mob.
“On 04/09/2025 at about 1745hrs, a distress call was received that one Aisha Hashiru, female, aged 22 years, was apprehended by members of the public at Orange Market, Mararaba, while attempting to abduct three minors”.
“She was about to be lynched when the Divisional Police Officer of Mararaba ‘A’ Division, acting promptly on the report, mobilized his patrol team to the scene, rescued both the suspect and the children, and moved them to the station for safety”.
The command said during investigation the suspect confessed to luring the children, and the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation.
The statement added that the state commissioner of Police has directed officers to intensify efforts to uncover other cases of missing children and strengthen the fight against human trafficking.
The police also commend the vigilance of residents and assure the public of their commitment to protecting lives and ensuring child safety in Nasarawa State.
