From Femi Mustapha and Divine Macaulay in Kaduna
The Kaduna State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of one Mustapha Abubakar, widely known on social media as ‘Dan Saudia’, for allegedly inciting unrest through online posts and for possession of substances suspected to be Indian hemp.
The arrest was carried out during a coordinated raid on June 22, 2025 at a known blackspot in the Rigasa area of Kaduna.
A statement on Tuesday by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Mansir Hassan, said that the suspect was apprehended while allegedly smoking and in possession of a large quantity of dried leaves suspected to be cannabis.
The statement described the suspect as a self-styled social media commentator who has gained notoriety for posting inflammatory and misleading content aimed at disrupting public peace and inciting disharmony among residents.
“The Command wishes to inform the general public of the arrest of one Comrade Mustapha Abubakar, popularly known as Dan Saudia, a self-acclaimed social commentator notorious for making inciteful and misleading comments on social media platforms with the intent to disrupt public peace and security,” the statement read in part.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Rabiu Muhammad, while reacting to the arrest, said the Command’s commitment to safeguarding the peace and security of the state.
He warned members of the public, especially social media users, to exercise responsibility in their online engagements and refrain from actions that could undermine public order.
“Anyone found engaging in acts capable of threatening public peace or violating the law will be decisively dealt with under the provisions of the law”.
The suspect is currently in police custody and, according to the Command, will be charged in court upon the conclusion of investigations.
The Kaduna State Police Command also urged residents to report suspicious activities promptly and continue to support efforts aimed at maintaining law and order across the state.
