*Accuses FG of failing to leave up to Nigerians’ expectation
By Folorunso Alagbede, Abuja
The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has formally issued certificates of expulsion to the Minister of Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Nyesom Wike, former Governor of Ekiti State, Mr Ayodele Fayose, embattled National Secretary of the party, Senator Samuel Anyanwu and eight others who were expelled at the recent elective national convention in Ibadan, Oyo State.
This also said that with the spate of kidnappings now taking place virtually all over the country and with the spate of killings taking place all over this country, the APC-led Federal Government has really not lived up to the expectations of Nigerians.
The National Chairman of the party, Alhaji Kabiru Tanimu Turaki said these on Tuesday while addressing Journalists after receiving the handing over note, which was in two volumes, from the immediate past National Chairman of the party, Ambassador Ilya Damagum in Abuja.
The party has consequently called on the Federal Government to brace up and, most especially, begin to consider a review of the security architecture in this country.
On the issuance of expulsion letters to Wike, Fayose and others, Alhaji Turaki said, “We have also considered the issue of members of our party who were expelled by the National Convention in Ibadan. We have taken note of the fact that Nigerian law frowns on dual membership of political parties, and so we have sought to make it easy for them.
“Now that they are no longer members of our party, and now that the National Convention—which is the highest decision-making organ of our party—has expelled them, we have decided to issue them certificates of expulsion. So that, when they go to register with other political parties in Nigeria, they will show these certificates as proof that they are no longer members of the PDP, and so those parties will not accuse them of trying to belong to more than one political party.
“As I speak to you, these certificates have been dispatched via courier to the 11 persons who have been expelled”,he said.
Displaying the certificates, Turaki said, “This is the certificate of expulsion of His Excellency Nyesom Wike. An original copy has gone to him via courier.
“This is the certificate of His Excellency Ayodele Fayose; it has also been sent to him through courier.
“This is proof that he has been expelled from the PDP.
“Next is the certificate of distinguished Senator Samuel Anyanwu; it has been sent to him via courier.
“Next is the certificate of expulsion of Honourable Umaru Bature; that has also been sent to him via courier.
“Next is the certificate of Kamarudeen Ajibade, Senior Advocate of Nigeria; that has also been sent to him via courier.
“Next is the certificate of Kamaluddin Adeyemi Ajibadi, Senior Advocate of Nigeria; that has also been sent to him through courier.
“Next is that of Abdurahman Muhammad; it has also been sent to him via courier.
“The next one is for Senator Mao Ohuabunwa; it has been sent to him via courier services.
“The next one is for Mr Austin Nwachukwu; his certificate of expulsion has also been sent to him via courier.
“The next is that of Abraham Amah Nnanna; it has been sent to him via courier.
“Second to the last is that of George Turna; this certificate has also been sent to him via courier services. I am sure some of them have already received theirs.
“Last but not least is that of Chief Dan Orbih; it has been sent to him through courier.
“We have done this for Nigerians—particularly critical institutions involved in managing the affairs of political parties, especially INEC, and agencies managing security affairs in society: the Nigeria Police, the Department of State Services, the Nigeria Civil Defence Corps and other government agencies—to know that these people are no longer members of our party.
“They have been expelled. They remain expelled. We have now certified their expulsion, and these certificates have been sent to them.
“Very soon, members of the society will be informed via proper disclaimers that any person henceforth who decides to do business with them—any or all of them—does so at his or her own risk. They are no longer members of the People’s Democratic Party. They have been expelled”, he explained.
Turaki expressed the hope that members of the PDP in Nigeria and the diaspora will know that the party has once again gotten rid of the “cankerworms that have been afflicting and creating problems for us in our activities”
