From Usman Abubakar, in Maiduguri
Nigeria needs to constitute a special brigade of retired security officers to augment the efforts of security agencies in combating the persistent insecurity and criminalities bedeviling the country.
The Secretary of the Borno Elders Forum, Dr. Bulama Mali Gubio, expressed this view while speaking at the pullout and retirement ceremony of ACP Ibrahim O Mohammed of the Borno State Police Command in Maiduguri, Friday, January 30.
“Thousands of these thoroughbred security officers from all the security services are languishing in their homes after retirement, while insecurity and criminalities continue to rage on across the country,” Dr. Gubio said.
“Organize these well-trained security officers and request their services when and where need be to assist our security services in tackling our security challenges and criminal activities,” he advised.
“America, China, Japan, all do this,” the Borno Elder and Chairman of the Borno State Civil Service Commission noted, querying, “Why shouldn’t Nigeria borrow a leaf?”
He praised the efforts of the Assistant Commissioner of Police, fondly AC Crack, and the entire Borno State Police Command in the continuing war against terror in the state over the last sixteen years.
The ceremony was organized by the Borno State Police Command in honour of ACP Mohammed who retired after 35 years of service. ENDS
