Kidnappers have hijacked a commercial vehicle, killed the driver and abducted all passengers on board in Benue State.
Our correspondent learnt that the incident happened on Sunday evening along the Ogobia–Adoka road in Otukpo Local Government Area of the State.
A local who spoke on condition of anonymity, told journalists on Monday, that the armed men laid an ambush, forced the fully loaded vehicle off the road into the bush, and shot the driver identified as ‘Arrow of God’ from Aila community in Agatu LGA before whisking the passengers away to unknown destination.
The latest attack comes less than three weeks after armed men, believed to be robbers, attacked two police officers at a checkpoint along the same Ogobia–Adoka Road.
The officers, Inspector Amos Okoh and Inspector Joseph Adowebo, were reportedly on routine patrol when they were attacked by the gunmen.
Efforts to get reaction from executive chairman of Otukpo local government council, Mr. Maxwell Ogiri was unsuccessful as he could not respond at the time of filing this report.
When contacted the Police Public Relations Officer DSP Edet Udeme could not respond to calls made to her phone.
