The Joint Union of Tertiary Institutions of Kaduna State (JUTIKS) has suspended its indefinite strike following the state government’s approval of key demands, including the implementation of a new salary structure and a review of the retirement age for non-teaching staff.
The strike, which began on September 30, 2025, had paralyzed academic and administrative activities across state-owned tertiary institutions.
In a statement signed by JUTIKS Chairman Comrade Usman Shehu Suleiman and Secretary Comrade Sha’aibu Dauda Adamu, the union announced the suspension of the strike after a meeting with Governor Uba Sani on October 17 at the Sir Kashim Ibrahim House in Kaduna.
According to the statement, the governor approved the implementation of 70 percent of the 2024 CONCASS/CONTEDISS salary structure, effective from the October 2025 salaries. He also approved the inclusion of non-teaching staff in the 65-year retirement age policy in accordance with regulatory guidelines.
“In light of the above, the leadership of JUTIKS hereby suspends the indefinite strike action effective today, October 20, 2025. All member unions are expected to comply with this directive,” the statement noted.
