Guardiola’s current contract runs until the end of the season, and the 53-year-old has remained tight-lipped about his future plans. However, following positive discussions between Guardiola and the club’s management, the former Barcelona manager is expected to begin his tenth season at the Etihad Stadium.
Since joining from Bayern Munich in 2016, Guardiola has become the most successful manager in the club’s history, winning 15 major trophies, including six Premier League titles.
Sources familiar with the situation have previously informed ESPN that Guardiola is anticipated to decide whether to sign an extension between the November international break and the beginning of the new year. His last two contract extensions, in 2020 and 2022, were signed in November to prevent speculation about his future from extending into the second half of the season.
While City has experienced a disappointing run of four consecutive losses in all competitions, they still sit second in the Premier League table, five points behind leaders Liverpool. Additionally, they are set to participate in the expanded FIFA Club World Cup, which begins in the United States in June.
Guardiola’s decision to extend his contract would be a significant boost for City, especially as they prepare to lose director of football Txiki Begiristain at the end of the season. Begiristain, who is a close friend and ally of Guardiola, will be succeeded by Hugo Viana, who is coming from Sporting CP.
