From Femi Mustapha, in Kaduna

A Shari’a court sitting at Magajin Gari Kaduna state on Monday ordered one Haruna Aliyu to stop meddling in Zainab Aliyu, his former wife’s affairs after confirming the divorce between them.

The Judge, Malam Kabir Muhammad said divorce can only be valid when it is mentioned or written, adding that one cannot reverse a divorce in his mind without saying it out.

“What you are trying to do is cheating and injustice against her; as such, the court has confirmed the one pronouncement of divorce made on August 18, 2024.

“Which means she has completed her waiting period of three menstrual circles; therefore, the defendant is no longer a wife to the complainant, ” the judge ruled.

Earlier, the complainant told the court that Aliyu had made one pronouncement of divorce to her in August 2024, praying the court to confirm the divorce.

The complainant told the court that she had found a suitor she intends to marry, but her ex-husband claims she’s still his wife, trying to cause trouble between her and her fiancé.

For his part, the defendant said he gave his ex-wife a divorce letter in the presence of her mother and her sister-in-law, adding that the mother tore the letter.

“When she tore the paper, I decided in my mind that I have returned my wife “, he said.
