From Victor Edozie, in Port Harcourt

The General Officer Commanding (GOC), 6 Division, Nigerian Army , Major General Emmanuel Eric Emekah, has called on the newly promoted senior officers to be worthy mentors to their subordinates.

He made the call at the investiture ceremony of four newly promoted officers held at Python Officers’ Mess, Port Harcourt Barracks.
He further said that at this stage of their career, any appointment they are given requires them to provide strategic guidance to staff and also be on top of any given situation.
He added that with their ranks in the military, they have assumed the position of appropriate superior authority. Hence, whatever they say may be seen as the position of the NA.
He thanked the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, for finding the senior officers worthy to be promoted amongst several others who were considered.
In their separate goodwill messages, the Commander, 6 Division Garrison, Brigadier General Abubakar Adamu Bello, and Commander, 76 Supply and Transport Brigade, Brigadier General Ogbonna Igwe, advised the newly promoted senior officers to be mindful of their conduct. They maintained that the rank they have reached calls for little external advice owing to their level of exposure on the job, while encouraging them to do more for the system.
While delivering the vote of thanks, the Commander, 46 Engineer Brigade, Brigadier General Obinna Eke, appreciated the COAS for recognizing their effort and finding them worthy of the promotion. He added that the promotion is not just a personal achievement but a call to greater service and responsibilities. He pledged that they will continue to uphold the values and standards of the NA with unwavering dedication.
He also thanked the GOC for his mentorship, guidance, exemplary leadership and commitment in shaping the officers under his command.
Brigadier General Eke stated that their elevation is not a result of personal effort but the combination of the support, encouragement and sacrifices of so many who have walked this journey with them. The newly promoted officers included Brigadier General Obinna Eke, Brigadier General Oludele Oyegoke, Colonel Prince Agbai and Colonel Abdullahi Ahmed.
