From Ahmad Muhammadu, in Bauchi

The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested 13 suspects in connection with an alleged gang rape, abortion and death of an 18-year old girl in Misau town in Misau Local Government Area of the State.
Police Public Relations Officer, (PPRO) CSP Mohammed Ahmed Wakil, said this in a statement made available to journalists on Thursday.
He said that on the 4th of April, 2025 at about 9.00am, the Police received information from a reliable source that sometimes about four months ago, Usman Umar ‘m,’ (22) of Fawari area of Misau and Sallau Ayuba ‘m’ (21) of Lariski area of Misau, lured one girl (names withheld) aged 18 years of the same address and had sexual intercourse with her several times.
He said when they noticed that she was pregnant, they engaged one Abubakar Mohammed ‘m’, (35), a year two student of A.D Rufai College for Islamic and Legal Studies, Misau, and gave him N40,000 to help them abort the pregnancy, but unfortunately, there were complications which eventually led to her death.
Wakil said: “They had sexual intercourse with her on different occasions at different places, including Mahmood Lodge, situated within Misau town, which resulted in the impregnation of the victim. And, on noticing the pregnancy, the two (2) defendants invited the third defendant (Abubakar Mohammed).
“They offered him forty thousand Naira (40,000) to inject the pregnant victim and cause an abortion. After the injection, the victim lost consciousness and later became seriously sick, which caused the victim’s family to take her to the General Hospital Misau.
“She was later referred to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC) Azare for further medical treatment. Subsequently, she was announced and certified dead by the hospital authorities while receiving treatment.”
Upon receipt of the report, he said, the suspects were arrested and they confessed to their inglorious act and mentioned other accomplices who are in connection with the case.
He said the other suspects are: Alkali Kawu, Maule Mai ride, Mai tomatoes, Danguli, Yakubu and Kura, a civil servant, and four (4) others were also arrested and are under investigation at the Divisional Police Headquarters, Misau.
The PPRO said: “The Command reaffirms its commitment and steadfastness in carrying out its statutory responsibility to ensure justice is served accordingly. The investigation is ongoing. After that, the suspects will be profiled and charged to court for the established offences accordingly.”
