Ahead of the 2027 general election, the Delta State Governor, Hon Sheriff Oborevwori and his deputy, Monday Onyeme, have dumped the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, for the All Progressives Congress, APC.
Similarly, the immediate past Governor of the State and running mate to Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, the PDP presidential candidate in the 2023 general election, Dr Ifeanyi Okowa has also decamped from the PDP to the ruling APC.
Others who moved to the ruling party with the governor are his commissioners and major stakeholders in the PDP in Delta State.
Similarly, a PDP elected member of the House of Representatives from Osun State, Hon. Oluwole Oke has resigned from the party with his supporters.
Oke is however yet to announce his next political destination.
The announcement of the defection of the Delta Governor, his deputy, Okowa and others was made following a closed-door meeting at the Government House in Asaba on Wednesday.
The Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Sir Festus Ahon, confirmed the development in a phone conversation with journalists yesterday.
According to the CPS to the Governor, “The decision to defect to the All Progressives Congress (APC) followed extensive consultations with political stakeholders and was made in the interest of Delta State’s long-term development”..
Governor Oborevwori was received by senior APC officials in what political pundits described as a strategic realignment that will have far-reaching implications for the 2027 general elections.
Meanwhile, a member of the House of Representatives from Osun State, Hon Oluwole Oke, has resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party.
Oke, a six-term lawmaker representing Obokun/Oriade Federal Constituency in Osun State, said he decided to leave the PDP after consulting with his political associates, friends, and family members.
His resignation letter dated April 16, 2025 was addressed to the PDP Chairman in Ward 7, Obokun Local Government Area of Osun State.
Oke also confirmed his resignation to newsmen on Wednesday.
According to him, “I have resigned from the PDP”.
The lawmaker however did not disclose his next political move.
He only urged his loyalists and supporters to leave the PDP and await his next direction.
