Government spokesperson, Michael Makeui Lueth, on Monday said joint operations were carried out including massive airstrikes in Nasir, a settlement in South Sudan’s Upper Nile state to bomb what he termed as a terrorist group — “the white army/ Naath Defense Forces”
He said, “Our air force has bombarded Nasir this morning,” adding: “What happened this morning was security operations that you are not very much concerned about them.”
These came following tensions between the South Sudan People Defense Forces and forces belonging to the white army following what the government termed as a misunderstanding during a routine military redeployement in Nasir that led to the death of 27 military persons and General David Majur Dak during an attempted evacuation by UN planes.
According to Nasir County commissioner, Gatluak Lew Thiep, several bombs were dropped by a military aircraft on the town’s airfield and surrounding areas causing multiple casualities.
According Makuei, the bombardment that happened on Sunday night, happened in the white army territory and has not touched any civilian.
However several videos and photos of civilians affected and house engulfed in flames circulated on Social media causing panic to the public
On the 4th of March, the white army overran an army garrison controlled by the South Sudan People’s Defense Forces where many forces were killed and others dislodged.
