The Protests against Bad governance and hunger in Kaduna today took a new dimension as protesters came out in their thousands waving the Russian flag and calling on President Putin to come to the rescue of the masses.
The protest which commenced peacefully in the morning with a few protesters, suddenly gathered momentum as protesters from various areas numbering thousands linked up at the popular Ahmadu Bello way, chanting “Bama So”, meaning we are not interested.
The protesters were dispersed at the popular NEPA Roundabout after they started looting public and private property.
However, they regrouped at the UTC bus stop and their next destination was a
property at the offices of AIT and Vision FM inside Nagwamatse House where they looted whatever they could lay their hands on.
They proceeded to an eatery along Sokoto Road and forced their way into the premises, vandalizing it.
Some were seen carting away chairs, generator, fans and others items.
The police however dispersed the protesters before they could force their way into a filling station which is a stone’s throw.
The looting spread to other parts of the metropolis and it was reported that security vehicles were not spared.
In a sharp response, the Kaduna State Security Council declared a 24-hour curfew on Kaduna and Zaria metropolitan cities.
As of the time of filing this report, residents of Kaduna were seen rushing to get back to their houses with the major roads in the town deserted.
