Three coaches have reportedly been interviewed for the vacant Super Eagles job by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF).
According to scorenigeria.com, former England coach Steve McClaren, former Cote d’Ivoire and Zambia AFCON-winning coach, Herve Renard and a former Gambia coach, Tom Saintfiet have all been grilled by the Nigeria federation, at separate times.
McClaren held sway as coach of the Three Lions of England between 2006 and 2007. He was the trusted assistant to Sir Alex Ferguson when Manchester United clinched a historic treble in England.
The 51-year-old Belgian Tom Saintfiet is currently in charge of The Philippines after he was appointed in February 2024.
He came very close to leading the Super Eagles in March 2012 when he was appointed by the NFF as technical director only for the sports ministry to later overrule this engagement.
Saintfiet was said to have been grilled by the NFF technical committee recently in a was a virtual interview.
He was coach of Gambia between 2018 and 2024 during which time he guided them to the quarterfinal of the delayed 2021 AFCON in Cameroon. He has also headed Zimbabwe, Namibia, Malawi and Togo.
It was gathered that the NFF has made contact with the representatives of Renard and McClaren for the Super Eagles top post.
