The parliament has ratified the agreement on economic, trade and technical cooperation between the government of South Sudan and the People’s Republic of China.

The agreement, ratified in Juba on Monday, is centered on enhancing friendship, developing and facilitating trade, economic and technical cooperation on the basis of equality and mutual benefit between the two countries.

Justice and Constitutional Affairs Minister, Ruben Madol tabled the one-year agreement before parliament in April for deliberation.

The agreement came as a result of the president’s visited to China in 2011 during the China-Africa Cooperation Summit and it’s said to yield several developments in the country such as the Clement Boro Bridge in Western Bahr- el-Ghazal State, the South Sudan Broadcasting Corporation building in Juba, the Juba Referral Teaching Hospital main building, and Salva Kiir Mayardit Hospital in Rumbek Lake State.

“The parliament being fully satisfied with the agreement and the leading role the sisterly People’s Republic of China is leading in numerous development and infrastructural developments in the country, the honorable members of the Transitional National Legislative Assembly unanimously ratified the agreement on economic, trade, technical cooperation between the two governments of the Republic of South Sudan and the People’s Republic of China,” read the parliament spokesperson, Oliver Mori Benjamin.

According to the agreement, cooperation will favor South Sudan and China regarding tariffs, duties, customs procedures, and other duties and charges among others while both countries could encourage and promote projects in the fields of trade, engineering, industry, agriculture, animal husbandry, and technology.
