The Yobe State Police Command has arrested two suspects in connection with the death of a farm labourer in Bursari LGA and rescued a 9-year-old child allegedly subjected to prolonged restraint in Jakusko LGA.

The Police Command in Yobe said on 30th September 2026, the Garin-Alkali Divisional Headquarters received a distress call that the body of an unidentified male adult was found in a bush on the outskirts of Rini-Kunu Village, Bursari LGA.
The police said detectives of the Division were swiftly mobilised to the scene, and the body was evacuated to Specialist Hospital, Gashua, where it was confirmed dead by a medical doctor.
The deceased was subsequently identified as Inusa Abdullahi ‘M’, a farm labourer from Kazaure LGA, Jigawa State.
Preliminary investigation revealed that he had been accused of stealing a water-pump generator by one Audu Auta ‘M’ of Rini-Kunu Village.
The allegation was reportedly brought before one Malah Muhammad Ibrahim ‘M’, a local vigilante member, who in company of one Abubakar Bulama ‘M’, allegedly arrested and took the deceased to a farm, where they reportedly restrained and assaulted him while attempting to obtain a confession.
The victim subsequently died, and his body was allegedly abandoned.
The two suspects have been arrested and are currently in Police custody, while investigation continues to establish the full circumstances of the incident and the involvement of other persons.
In a separate development on 1st October 2026, operatives of the Jakusko Division, acting on credible information, arrested one Muktar Haruna ‘M’ 35yrs of Hadejia LGA, Jigawa State, and resident of Garin Baduku Village, Jakusko LGA, for alleged child cruelty.
Preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect, an Arabic teacher, allegedly chained the legs of a 9-year-old male student for about four months.
The child was rescued and taken to General Hospital, Jakusko, for medical examination and necessary attention.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Usman Kanfani Jibrin, psc, mspsp, sm.icm, condemned all forms of violence, torture and abuse, particularly against vulnerable persons and children, and directed that both cases be thoroughly investigated.
The Command urged members of the public to promptly report suspected cases of abuse, violence or other criminal activities to the Police and desist from taking the law into their own hands.
